The Old Ship

The Old Ship Inn, Cawsand… a burnt out pub in the heart of the village, taken into community ownership in 2018 with the intention of providing housing for local people and a vibrant community space.

Community Café

Visit the Old Ship on a Monday or Thursday between 10am and 1pm and you are in for a treat! Be warmly welcomed by local volunteers, grab a table in the cosy cafe or sunny (sometimes!) courtyard and enjoy locally made cakes, apple juice and hot drinks.

Community Events

From games nights in the winter to after school club in term time, from curry nights to BBQs, live music to comedy - regular fundraising events are held at the Old Ship and all are welcome! Follow our social media accounts or keep an eye for posters for upcoming events.

The future of the Old Ship

Phase 1 is complete - We brought the property with a mixture of funding grants and community shares, made it structurally safe and built a temporary community space, with a fully equipped commercial kitchen and café area.

Narrow cobblestone street lined with stone and plaster buildings, decorated with red bunting flags and greenery.

Phase 2 - The original timeline has been impacted by the pandemic and knock on impacts on funding and capacity - however our aims and intentions for the Old Ship are still the same, to build affordable flats and make the ground floor bar/café and heritage centre permanent. Right now we are working to review the business and funding model and will share further information as soon as we have it.
